Musings on a recent Warren Ellis post

I just got done reading a half dream musing post from Warren Ellis. He thought it would be wild if there were more people alive today than who have ever lived.

I actually had a similar thought the other day and concluded that if there are more people alive today than who have ever lived, than there are statistically the same or more geniuses alive today than have ever lived. That means that there is at least one Newton, Ben Franklin, Aristotle, Pythagoras, Al-Kwarizme, etc. alive RIGHT NOW. What are these people doing, creating, discovering? Are they? Or are they being turned into mindless sponges by our massive media oriented, consumer world? Would that fuel or falter their inspiration or desire to achieve? I welcome any comments you might have.
